24 Years of Favor

He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.

Proverbs 18:22

Today celebrates Paula’s and my 24th wedding anniversary.  Hard to imagine where the time has flown.  But it has.  I thank God for Paula.   He knew what He was doing when He chose her for me.

I well recall the day I first saw her… or should I say, heard her?

We were in a crowded room at Colorado State University, 80 young staffers working admin on a huge conference.  As a young, single guy, I listened to the mandatory introductions with ho-hum interest, each the equivalent of name-rank-serial number.  I was bored.  After 80 such soliloquies, I checked out.

Suddenly (returning from an errand for the conference boss), she walked in (hmm, she’s pretty) and took her turn, in the most beautiful Southern accent I’ve ever heard, “Hi, my name is Paula Kendall,” (wow, what a voice!). I was smitten, in just a moment.

24 years have passed as husband and wife.

What a Bride!

What a Savior! …and with wonderful tricks up His sleeve 🙂

Perhaps you heard that a Bookstore truck, filled with Roget’s Thesauruses, recently crashed at a busy intersection?  A large crowd gathered.   Onlookers were surprised, astonished, stupefied, amazed, staggered, dumbfounded, startled, bewildered, breathless, puzzled, spellbound, awestruck, aghast, agog!

That may be my very favorite joke in all the world.

Have an astonishing day today, with Jesus, the Dazzling One.  You might want to start by reading about Him, not in Roget’s book, but in Jesus’ Autobiography, penned with the assistance of a Ghostwriter, (if you’re tracking with me, read 2 Peter 1:21, 2 Timothy 3:16a).

Stop reading this.  Go read about Him.  May your heart be all agog at the prospect!

PS Roget’s Thesaurus is just one book, attempting to catalogue all the possible synonyms for our English words.  But Jesus’ wonders are a veritable library.  He cannot be catalogued so easily.  John 21:25 says that Jesus “did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”  What a Savior!
